Giving in the Age of Free

B1G1 has ALWAYS had a policy of 100% of Members’ giving going direct to their chosen cause. Or, to put that another way, B1G1 takes 0% off the top. Nothing. Nor have we ever charged causes to be a p…

Explore the virtual village

Welcome to the B1G1 giving village

It’s great to have you here. And if you’re a first time visitor, we encourage you to do what you’d do in a real village – EXPLORE!

In particular, click on the village graphic above. Check out the magic of the Habitat Residence (where you can buy a virtual house that becomes a real home for a homeless family) or the EcoForest (where you can buy virtual trees that become real trees) and maybe visit the newsagent or the dress shop. Seriously!

You see, this Village is all about connecting with a common purpose of making a difference - to our own lives and the lives of many others by sharing the joy of giving.

Buy1GIVE1 - B1G1 does that by turning our world into a world full of giving through everything we do. In the B1G1 world, everyday transactions give back to make a difference. Someone buys a book, a tree gets planted. People dine out, hungry children get fed. When someone buys a cup of coffee, people in Africa get access to pure, clean water as a direct result. And much, much more.

Go ahead and invite others. Share your ideas. And if you’d like to support what B1G1 is doing, we would love you to join as a B1G1 Global Citizen (you’ll have some fun there with some of the options too). And if you own or run a business, please explore more about B1G1 Business.

We’re really looking forward to you adding to the magic here and to us adding to your magic too. In that way, our own seemingly small actions help us make a real difference together. As ONE.

The Earthquake in Haiti — what you can do

All of us are impacted by the earthquake in Haiti.

You maybe wondering what you can do to help.

B1G1 is not a Disaster Relief organisation as you know. So we're recommending you check in on this special Google site to look at all of the options available: http://bit.ly/6be1tt

An appropriate and generous donation to the organisations will provide emergency medical care, food, shelter, medicine, blankets and clean drinking water to those suffering from the qua… Continue

Life/work balance is nonsense - life/work harmony is possible

I hear a lot of talk about life/work balance and I think most of it is nonsense.

The word balance for me implies equal. I prefer the word harmony, therefore life/work harmony.

My personal and business life are not equal or in balance and are never likely to be.

They are in harmony with one another, that is, they work together like a symphony, two sides of the same coin

Here are my 11 laws of life/work harmony. I trust they will help you live a more harmonious life.

My top 10 predictions for 2010

    1) Politicians will be less seen as world leaders due to their monumental failure to lead in Copenhagen. World Leaders will be the social entrepreneurs and business people who actually do things that make a difference. I call these folk insightpreneurs™ and differencemakers™. Insightpreneurs™ are experts at turning information into insight into inspiration into ideas into innovation, fast. Differencemakers™ are folk who innovate for the good of people and our planet.

    2) Social media will contin… Continue
